ABSTRACT

In this paper the design and performance of an active clamp forward converter using a center t apped transformer is discussed to take the advantage of this converter topology in low voltage and high current applications. The usage of a synchronous full wave rectifier in the center tapped secondary of the transformer to show the efficiency improvemen ts in low output voltages levels was also explored. For this a synchronous forward converter was designed considering a range of +36 V to +75 V as power supply for a +5 V output voltage and a maximum output power of 150 watts. Results are shown in simulati on for +36 V, +48 V and +75 V input voltage.
